Stock photographs are used by a wide variety of companies for marketing, sales, information and public relations ads.

Selling photographs through a company photo allows the photographer to concentrate on taking pictures while the company handles the marketing and sales. In most cases, an enterprise of photos can use a wide variety of photographs to support an eclectic clientele. In some cases, however, the company is specialized and can not accept photos from a narrow field of subject. In both cases, quality photographs that are crisp, clear, dynamic and technically excellent images with compositions of imagination and a lot of memories are what a corporation is looking for photographer provide.

  1. Prepare a portfolio of 50 photographs of your best. Ensure that all photographs are fully developed, clearly define the subject (good natured), have excellent color saturation and free from dust, scratches or other defects.

  2. Save all photos in portfolio using lossless compression such as TIFF, JPEG2000, or PGN, and does not resize the picture. You can change the format of RAW, but do not improve or replace colors, change the contrast or adjust levels. Most companies want stock photos that are not affected by the graphics programs, so make the photograph in the camera, not a computer.

  3. Contact several companies, photos and submit your portfolio for review. In some cases, you must submit a CD or DVD containing your portfolio. In other cases, you will be allowed to submit your portfolio online. Follow the submission guidelines for each company exactly as they request. Do not add comments or captions to your photos.

  4. In most cases, after being accepted as a stock photographer you will be asked to provide a minimum number of photographs fees over a period of time. In some cases, a corporation will not allow you to sell the same photo through another company, you'll need to develop a good system to keep track of your files, including when they were submitted and which company is using.

  5. Constantly review your own pictures to ensure they stay within the guidelines of the company and keep track of photos that sell. If a certain type of photography that sells well, try to reproduce the subject or theme in a slightly different or slightly different angle.
